How to Make Homemade Honey Lemon Cough Syrup

How to Make Homemade Honey Lemon Cough Syrup

Sometimes the simplest, cheapest things work just as well as the pricey things. This is one of those do-at-home recipes that works well. Honey lemon syrup will coat your throat, loosen mucous a bit and calm your coughing. It eases a sore throat, too. And you won't have to worry whether it agrees with other medicines or has side effects or is too strong for the kids.

Things You'll Need:

1 cup honey

3 Tbsp. lemon juice

1/4 cup warm water

1

Use locally cultivated honey. It's usually found at fruit stands, although grocery stores may carry it. It tastes better and if you eat a teaspoonful a day it can help to ease allergies to local grass,
trees
and plants.

2

Mix the honey with the lemon juice. Stir slowly and slowly add the warm water until it's mixed together well.

3

Use one or two teaspoons every 2 to 3 hours or as needed. You can store this safely in the refrigerator for many months. If it gets separated or a little too hard to spoon easily, just warm it up a little in the microwave.

4

Keep some of this made up ahead of cold and flu season. It's great to have on hand for that cough and scratchy throat.
